Valley Club Rides
- The Wheezers' and Geezers' Ride
Saturday mornings
Meets at Camelback Inn, 5400 block north of East Lincoln on Saturday mornings. Start time is 6:30 a.m. April through September and 7:30 a.m. October through March. Start time may move to 6 a.m. during especially hot summer months. Click on the Mail List Subscribe link at the left to receive E-mail updates about this ride. The ride leader is Jerry Bell. The pace is fast. Riders seeking a more moderate pace should try the Extreme Geezers' Ride, below. - Extreme Geezers' Ride
Saturday mornings
The Extreme Geezer's Ride is a more relaxed version of the Geezer's Ride and is recommended for people who are would rather not ride quite as fast or who may not be comfortable riding in tight packs. The ride meets at the traffic circle at the intersection of Invergordon Road, Northern Avenue, and Mockingbird Lane in Paradise Valley and from there, it follows the Geezer's route, but with a head start. The group usually joins the Geezers for coffee at AJ's, and the two groups then ride back together. The start times are the same as the Geezer's Ride shown above. -
Arizona Bicycle Club (ABC) Granada Park Breakfast Ride
Sunday mornings
Five different speed groups from racers to casual "cruisers".
Meets at Granada Park, 20th Street and Maryland, at 6:30 a.m. April through September and 7:30 a.m. October through March. The groups ride to various Phoenix-area restaurants for breakfast. Ride time approximately an hour each way. Many of the Wheezers and Geezers participate in this ride. - Sunday South Mountain
A group of riders meets every Sunday morning at Granada Park, 20th St and Maryland, at the same time as the ABC breakfast ride (see above). Instead of riding to breakfast with the rest of the ABC group, this group rides to South Mountain, ascends to the top, and then regroups at the bottom of the mountain for the ride back. This is a hard, fast-paced ride. During the hot summer months, this ride may not take place. - The Wednesday Wheelsuckers (formerly
Wandering Wheels)
Wednesday mornings
This is a joint ride of the Geezers and the Phoenix Consumers Cycle Club. The ride meets Wednesday morning at the traffic circle (aka "the roundabout" at the intersection of Invergordon Road, Northern Avenue, and Mockingbird Lane in Paradise Valley. The normal start time is 7:30 a.m. October through March and 6:30 a.m. April through September, although the start time may move to 6 a.m. during periods of extreme heat. The pace is moderate to fast (slower in winter) and follows a modified version of the Wheezers' and Geezers' route that avoids the heavy weekday traffic on Via Linda. - The Hour of Power
Tuesday and Thursday mornings
This ride meets at 5:30 a.m. all year at the corner of Exeter and 64th Street in East Phoenix and goes around Mummy Mountain and then returns by the same route. The pace is fast, and the ride features close riding and fast downhill turns, so it is only recommended for riders who are comfortable riding in tight packs while cornering at high speed. Many of the riders who participate in this event are racers. More casual riders often remark that the people who participate in this ride are completely nuts. During much of the year, the ride takes place in darkness, so strong headlights are required. - Tuesday-Thursday Ride
