Who are we?

The Wheezers and Geezers are a bicycle-riding group that meets every Wednesday and every Saturday morning in Paradise Valley near Phoenix at the traffic circle at the corner of Invergordon and Northern as late as 8:30 a.m. in winter and as early as 6 a.m. in the hottest summer months. We also have sporadic rides from the same location on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from the same starting point. Because the ride starting times and routes can change on short notice, the best way to stay informed is to sign up for our email list. Click the "Mail List Subscribe" at the left and follow the instructions. There is also a link at the left that will bring up a map of our ride starting point with GPS coordinates, which are

 33°33'10.8"N 111°56'35.3"W.

Riders range in age from their mid-20s to their 70s. New riders are welcome, but they should be comfortable riding in tight packs and be able to ride at speeds of more than 20 miles per hour on the flats while drafting. Cornering skills are also appreciated. Helmets are required, and aero handlebars are not permitted for safety reasons. There is no formal ride leader. Everyone rides at his or her own risk and is responsible for any injures caused to himself, herself or to others. This is a pickup ride and is not sanctioned by any group, person or organization.

Once riders learn the route, slower riders find that there are shortcuts that enable them to catch up with the group again, if they fall behind.

Our usual route curves through Paradise Valley to reach Double Tree Ranch Road, then east on Double Tree Ranch to Via Linda, left on Via Linda to Mountain View, right on Mountain View to 124th Street. Left on 124th Street to Via Linda, right on Via Linda to the top of the hill inside the Hidden Hills community. After riding back down the hill (for those who didn't wimp out and bypass it) and regrouping at the bottom, the ride descends west on Via Linda to its intersection with Mountain View, where we used to stop for coffee at AJ's until it closed. Recently, we have been stopping at Panera Bread in the Gainey Ranch shopping center.

Summer rides can be longer and may head out to North Scottsdale with a coffee stop at AJ's in the shopping center on the southeast corner of East Pinnacle Peak Road and North Pima Road.
