Who are we?
The Wheezers and Geezers are a bicycle-riding group that meets every Saturday in Phoenix at the Camelback Inn north of Lincoln Drive at the 5400 block at 6:30 a.m. from April through September and 7:30 a.m. from October through March. The summer time may be pushed up to 6 a.m. during especially hot periods, so if you're interested in this ride, we suggest subscribing to our E-mail list (see links at left). Riders range in age from their mid-20s to their 60s. New riders are welcome, but they should be comfortable riding in tight packs and be able to ride at speeds of more than 20 miles per hour on the flats while drafting. Cornering skills are also appreciated, as there are several fast right-angle turns near the beginning of the ride. Helmets are required. Once riders learn the route, they find that there are shortcuts that enable them to catch up with the group again, if they fall behind. For riders who may not be up to the Geezers' pace (we may be old, but we ain't dead), there is a slower version of the ride called the Extreme Geezers. Click on the Club Rides link at the left for more information on that and other rides.
Our usual route curves through Paradise Valley to reach Double Tree Ranch Road, then east on Double Tree Ranch to Via Linda, left on Via Linda to Mountain View, right on Mountain View to 124th Street. Left on 124th Street to Via Linda, right on Via Linda to the top of the hill inside the Hidden Hills community. After regrouping at the top of the hill (for those who didn't wimp out and bypass it), the ride descends west on Via Linda to its intersection with Mountain View, where many of the riders stop for coffee at AJ's. From AJ's, the ride may return to the starting point via either Mountain View or Via Linda.
